Dan and Faith at The Bolton Fair
This is the second September that we've been living in Bolton, and the second
time we went to the fair. The fair is one of the oldest around, and this year
was the 113th year it's been held.
The fair is quite the community effort, with the town fields near the center of
town, which stretch for about a mile, being totally occupied by all kinds of
events, crafts merchants, rides, commercial exhibitors, and so forth.
This year the weather was quite nice, as we had cool fall weather, with sunny and partly
sunny skies. We watched a little of the fiddling contest, watched both horse
team pulling and oxen pulling, saw some of the equestrian events, watched
our friends Roger and Robyn Perkins (W1OJ and KN1F) and lots of their friends
exibit their miniature horses, and even got a demo of a chipper shredder...
You name it, it was probably at the fair.
We entered lots of stuff in the agricultural exhibits, here are the results:
- First Place: Parsnips
- First Place: French Marigolds
- Second Place: Potted Herb Plant
- Second Place: Arrangement of Fresh Cut Herbs
- Third Place: Tomato Sauce (canned)
- Third Place: Beets
- Third Place: Green Peppers (other than Bell) - entered Anaheim peppers
- Third Place: Cherry Tomatoes
- Third Place: Unclassified Vegetables - Entered something called Vitamin
Green, which looks like a cross between Bok Choi and Spinach.
