Manual control of the Information LED on the
Sony Vaio PCG-Z505JS Notebook Computer

Introduction

Like most of my tech notes this one was borne out of a lack of information.

I was trying to figure out how to make the Information Indicator LED on the front of the notebook do something useful. Sony has a scripting language which sort of does something with this LED, but it doesn't seem all that well thought out. So, I figured if there were some simple command available to turn the LED on and off, that'd be useful.

I found one in one of Sony's directories on the laptop. Unfortunately, there was no documentation for the program, and it produces no error messages if you give it incorrect input. Some tinkering resulted in finding the proper incantations.

Twiddleing the LED

To turn the LED on or off, use the command:
SEILED /ON
or
SEILED /OFF
The command is an executable, located in:
C:\Program Files\SONY\Jog Dial Utility\bin
